Platelet Rich Plasma - hair loss and skin rejuvenation

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be used to assist in skin rejuvenation on the face, neck and upper chest.  It can be used to further improve wrinkling, sun damage and acne scarring that has been previously treated with lasers, fillers and radiofrequency.

PRP can also be used to treat some types of scalp hair loss and thinning hair.

Platelets are cells in your blood that are thought to help healing and also contain proteins called growth factors, which have been suggested as improving collagen, blood supply and wound healing.

Your blood consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, and high levels of platelets, and plasma.  When platelets are activated in the body they produce proteins called growth factors.  It is these growth factors that are thought to be able to help regenerate new tissue improving blood supply and wound healing.

Your skin texture will respond as the new cells grow and visible results may take several weeks to appear and continue for up to six months.  Responses will vary in time and degree depending on your overall health, age, diet, smoking history and whether your weight is stable.

A small sample of your blood is processed in a specialised system designed to extract your platelets in a safe clinical manner.  These platelets are then harvested into syringes and injected into the area you wish to be treated.

PRP is your own blood, known as autologous.  As you are using your own tissue to repair and improve your skin tissue, it should therefore not cause you an allergic reaction.

You will usually need between three to six treatment sessions to achieve optimum results.
