Perseverance, the Key to Success
Good morning to you all, especially the judges, teachers, and audience. I'm Naehan Siahaan grade 4 from the Big Dipper class. Thank you for having me here. Today, I'm going to tell you a story about "Perseverance, the Key to Success". Here is the story goes!
I would like to begin my story by quoting the words of Robert Collier, an American self-help author (1885-1950). He said, "Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out".
According to the Oxford dictionary, success is defined as the fact that you have achieved something that you want and have been trying to do or get; the fact of becoming rich or famous or of getting a high social position. To affirm what is said by Robert Collier, to succeed means doing small efforts every day.
As a student, I want to be a successful person. We all want to succeed in whatever we dream. I dream of being a doctor and I want to succeed in that dream. What I do now is to build a strong foundation so that in the future I can become a good and professional doctor so that I can help many people who are in need of my service. To achieve this goal, since I was three, I have been following several courses such as English class, piano and violin lessons, ballet and vocal classes, and yoga. I have been following these courses every week during school days and holidays. Sometimes I feel tired and bored because I almost have no time to do my favorite games at home with my friends. I just want to give my all and try my best so that I can achieve my dream.
As a student, I always try to follow 5 keys to success given by Lloyd Bachrach, they are:
1.Build high self-esteem Believe in yourself, have confidence, like and feel good about yourself, take pride in what you do.
2.Focus with a positive attitude, and always expect the best possible outcome for what you do. Your thoughts are like magnets; you attract what you think.
3.Set powerful goals, and give your brain a place to aim. Set goals so that you can reach them. When you do, reach a little higher.
4.Persevere never quit. Never give up. Keep going and keep trying.
5.Maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit Take care of yourself through a healthy diet, exercise, and say no to drugs.
Confucius (551-479 BC), a philosopher once said, "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones". May, we who have started carrying small stones by going to school one day can move the mountain that is achieving our dreams.
...and that is the end of my story. Thank you for your attention. I hope you all enjoy it.
